Sustainability at Young’s

Often being sustainable is all about the little things we do that make a big impact, from our pubs to our people and the communities they serve we’re pleased to share just a few of the (little and big) things that we’ve been up to. Some notable points include the removal of all petrol and diesel cars from our fleet, 100% diversion of commercial waste to landfill through our partnership with Suez, and our continued partnership with Wooden Spoon, the children’s rugby charity with a goal to raise £200,000 during 2024-2025. Seeing as hospitality is all about people, we take great pride in our continued efforts to promote internally and develop all our people’s skills through initiatives such as our chef development programmes and general manager development programmes.

Together with our community we are building a better future for our people and our environment

Sustainability

Young’s is a company with a long heritage and we are committed to building a business which nurtures and develops our people, makes a lasting and positive contribution to the communities we operate in, and respects the environment.

Our sustainability programme focuses on three core areas.

Sustainable company with three core pillars. People, Community and Environment.

3. Recycling and waste management
4. LED lighting
5. Cellar management
6. Waterless urinals
7. EV chargers
8. Solar panels
9. Gas conversion project

Young’s Pubs Partnership with Plymouth Gin

Teaming up with our pals at Plymouth Gin, the botanical heroes promising a pledge of 50p from every Plymouth Gin and tonic or Hugo Spritz, sold in our pubs between April – May going to the Ocean Conservation Trust.

We are so happy to announce the amazing news that collectively you’ve helped us raise a staggering £60,000 for the Ocean Conservation Trust through the sales of Plymouth Gin through 2022 to 2024.

Food Made Good

You might not have heard of it, but the Food Made Good Standard is the world’s largest Food & Beverage sustainability accreditation (it’s like the Oscars for pubs and restaurants). It’s awarded to businesses creating positive change across the food service industry.

The assessors looked at all areas of our business, from celebrating local and seasonal produce to treating staff fairly and valuing natural resources. We care about all these things dearly, so that’s why we’re so chuffed about the recognition for our hard work and taking steps forward in Young’s sustainability journey.
