Food Made Good
Swinging into summer…
…with the stella news that we’ve been awarded the three-star Food Made Good rating (that’s the top you can get by the way) from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
Awarded to businesses creating positive change across the food service industry, the accreditation showcases our commitment to operating sustainably across all areas.
So what have we been up to?
Our seasonal menus highlight the best of British produce, with an emphasis on the majority of our ingredients sourced from local British suppliers. This includes beef sourced from ex-dairy cattle, asparagus from our own field in the Oxfordshire countryside, and sea vegetables, wild mushrooms, and nettles all foraged by the incredible Martin Denny in Norfolk.
It doesn’t just stop with our menus, we’ve worked hard to reduce our food waste too, with 334,325 litres of cooking oil (that’s about 2.3 million pints, incase you were wondering) recycled for biodiesel. And 100% of our electricity now comes from renewable sources, plus we’re rolling out solar panels (pray for sunshine) and EV charging points across a number of our pubs.
With your help we’ve also been keeping busy by raising £20 000 for the Ocean Conservation Trust to support seagrass replanting through the sales of Plymouth Gin and some of our pubs have been going the extra mile with community initiatives such as Meet Up Mondays and Warm Spaces which were introduced as a way of overcoming loneliness.
Now that sounds like a reason to grab a beer 🍻
