Our partnership with Wooden Spoon
Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby
They are a grant-making charity and fund life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland. Their aim is that every penny that volunteers raise is spent in their local communities. They need your help more than ever as the number of children requiring the amazing support that these charities offer, continues to grow. In the last year Wooden Spoon was only able to fund one in four of the grant applications they received due to the increased demand for support. They are asking you, the rugby community, to come together, in the true spirit of rugby and help change young peoples’ lives.
Support The Rugby Love
The Rugby Love explores the bonds created by the game, and the communities it crosses, and connects the pubs with people who gather to cheer on their teams with passion.
After a successful partnership with Wooden Spoon over the last year. We’re partnering with Wooden Spoon again to help deliver life-changing projects via the children’s rugby charity.
As the sport celebrates years of tackles, tries, tears, and triumphs, we will strengthen our affiliation with rugby and give back to our communities throughout an exciting year.
Through the support of you and our teams we’re hoping to raise £200k collectively through locally supported Wooden Spoon initiatives:
Natasha’s Law (charity supporting allergy awareness)
Dogs for Good (training of assistance dogs)
Pass the Plate (a food bank initiative)
School of Hard Knocks (getting people back on their feet through the sport)
Maddy’s Mark (positive mental health for women in rugby)

In the 200th year of rugby, we set ourselves an ambitious target of raising £150,000 as a company. With Wooden Spoon we hosted events with rugby players and commentators and got involved in volunteering opportunities.
The partnership has strengthened our affiliation with rugby, and it has allowed our pubs to support and give back throughout an exciting year of events. We successfully achieved our target, finishing having raised over £200,000. We are proud to have received the Corporate Support of the Year award, as part of the Wooden Spoon’s 40th anniversary celebrations at the House of Lords.
